I start the process of making a piece in copper wire by modelling out the subject in clay so that I can get to grips with the form. From there I decide how may sections the piece needs to be made in and work out the pattern. I use a knitting machine to create the sections and then a range of beautiful wooden darning tools, mushrooms and mallets to push and persuade the copper into shape. Increasingly I am interested in making and adding details in glass and white metal... I can make the pieces to order (although I occasionally have some stock) and can make knitted wire sculptures to commission - it doesn't have to be an animal, it's just that that's what I'm usually asked for!
